City purchases new truck

It’s a little-known fact that sanitation workers are often listed as one of the top 10 most dangerous jobs in America and Monett recently took a step towards increasing safety for local employees. The City of Monett recently purchased a new automated garbage truck that will allow a single operator to drive and collect without leaving the cab of the truck and enter potentially dangerous situations.

Local first responders tend to Debra Turne, 66, of rural Pierce City following a crash on Highway 37 near Wishart Street Thursday, June 30. According to the Monett Police Department, Matteo Lumetta, 18, of Rural Cassville was driving a 2011 Ford Focus south on 37 when he experienced a mechanical failure and crossed the center line, colliding with Turne in a 2015 Chevy Equinox. Student safety comes first

Motorists traveling through Pierce City school zones may be to find new traffic control devices in place at the start of the 2022-2023 academic year. Jarrod O’Hara, school resource officer, has developed a traffic control plan that will address some student safety concerns during morning drop offs and afternoon pick up.
