This was the headquarters for The Monett Times from 1920 to 1963. Located at 212 Fifth Street, it was the newspaper’s second location, the first was 210 Fifth Street, at the mouth of the alley running between Broadway and Bond Streets. It’s a short distance from where Monett’s first newspaper, the Monett Eagle, was published at the corner of Bond and Fifth. Owner and publisher Pearl Peters stands at center. The building had a second story added about 1924. The editorial office was on the second floor, and copy was dropped using a dumbwaiter on a pulley to the first floor for proofreading. Typesetting and printing were done in the rear. The paper moved to 505 E. Broadway in 1963, where it stayed until 2022. The original building in its final years served as headquarters for the Monett Police Department. File photo/The Monett Times
